Safety inspections in Sierra Leone
ISI Published 7th December 2012
he Tonkolili Iron Ore Project stretches 30km over the Numbara, Simbili, Marampon and Kasafoni deposits in Sierra Leone and is a major development for African Minerals, creating one of the largest iron ore resources in the world with a total mine life in excess of 60 years.
African Minerals recognised the need for a high level of technical expertise, to ensure both the safety of their employees and the reliability of the machinery and plant in use at the mine. The Tonkolili iron ore project will contribute substantial economic benefits to Sierra Leone, with approx 80% of the workforce coming from local communities.
After initial briefings, ISI has so far completed 3 separate visits to carry out rigorous inspections of lorry loaders, mobile cranes, container handlers, swing jib cranes and pressure vessels.
